RHYTHMS, COLOURS, FLAVOURS OF PERU FESTIVAL

SUNDAY 25th JULY 2021 – 12PM to 5PM

Tickets available online on Eventbrite $15 (under 16 years old FREE)

MARRICKVILLE TOWN HALL

Rhythms, Colours, Flavours of Peru returns for a 6th edition, as the longest running community festival celebrating Peruvian live music, dance, fine food and culture in New South Wales, it will be a joyous day to remember.

Following formal proceedings and acknowledgement to country, Gumaroy Newman and David Newman will delight us with a first nation’s performance showcasing traditional rhythms.

Australia’s best exponents of traditional Andean Peruvian music and festival regulars, Duo Jimenez, will transport us to the magic of the Andes, and Sydney-based groups, Brisas del Peru and Te Amo Peru will delight us with their colourful and energetic dance performances throughout the day.

There’s no Peruvian celebration without Pisco, Peru’s national flagship drink, and for this edition, our favourite Chef Jorge Chacon will teach us the secrets of how to create the perfect and refreshing Pisco Sour. He’ll also give us an insight into Peruvian cuisine with a cooking demonstration, showcasing delicious traditional dishes. ‘Andina – Peruvian Cuisine’ food stall will be selling a variety of delicious dishes throughout the day, and you can also try traditional Peruvian desserts.

We could not have a celebration of Peruvian culture without the sounds of Chicha, the infectious tropical, melodic, electric guitar-driven sound that Peruvians love to dance to, and which some people call Peruvian or Amazonic cumbia.  For this edition of Rhythms, Colours, Flavours of Peru, we are proud to introduce an authentic Australian Chicha band, Chicharrita Club, hailing all the way from Canberra, and featuring a lively ensemble of Australian and Peruvian musicians. Their mission is, they say, to spread the sounds of Chicha far and wide, just like the cicadas (chicharras), from which the band’s name originates. Get ready to dance.

A kid’s corner will offer fun activities for the family. Don’t miss this special event – join us to celebrate Sydney’s vast multicultural fabric.
